Herbal Medicine
Tailored formulas of plants and minerals to support your body in the days between visits.

Chinese herbal medicine is the practice of combining plants, and sometimes minerals, into a single tailored formula chosen for your particular pattern. If acupuncture is the work we do with you in the room, herbs are how that work continues at home: a daily, gentle nudge that keeps the body moving in the right direction between visits.
First, plainlyWhat herbal medicine actually is
A formula is rarely a single herb. It's a careful combination (often eight to fifteen ingredients) balanced so that each one supports, tempers, or directs the others. This is the real craft of it: the same complaint in two different people may call for two different formulas, because we're treating the whole pattern, not just the symptom. Formulas are adjusted over time as you change.
This tradition has been written down, debated, and refined for well over a thousand years. That long lineage doesn't make it magic, but it does mean the combinations we use have been observed very closely by a great many careful practitioners.
In practiceHow you'll actually take it
We'll usually prescribe one of a few convenient forms, chosen to fit your life:
- Granules: concentrated extracts you dissolve in hot water, like a tea.
- Capsules or tablets: for classic formulas, when convenience matters most.
- Raw herbs: simmered into a traditional decoction, for when a fully customized formula is called for.
We'll walk you through exactly how and when to take your formula, and what to expect, before you leave.
Herbs are medicine, so we treat them like it.
Because herbal formulas are active, they can interact with prescription medications and aren't right in every situation. Always tell us what you're taking, including supplements, and let your physician know you're using herbs. We source from reputable, tested suppliers, and your safety guides every formula we write.
Where it helpsWhat people come in for
Herbal medicine is reached for across a wide range of concerns, often when something needs steady, ongoing support:
- Digestive complaints and a system that feels out of balance.
- Sleep, stress, and a nervous system that won't settle.
- Low energy and a sense of running on empty.
- Hormonal and cycle-related concerns.
- Ongoing support between acupuncture visits.
Across the practiceWhere you’ll find it
Herbs do their quiet work in most of our care plans. You’ll find them supporting pain care from the inside, and woven through stress & sleep, women’s wellness, and men’s wellness.
HonestlyIs it right for you?
"I already take prescription medication. Is that a problem?"
Not necessarily, but it's exactly why we ask. Some herbs can interact with medications, so we review everything you take before writing a formula, and we'll coordinate with your physician where it matters. Honesty here keeps you safe.
"Do the formulas taste bad?"
Some are earthy, it's true. But we can often choose granules or capsules to make things easy, and many people come to find the daily ritual oddly grounding. If a formula is hard to take, tell us. There's usually a more palatable option.
"Chinese herbal medicine isn't one-size-fits-all. Every formula I write is built for the person in front of me, adjusted as the body changes. That's the craft, and after all these years it still keeps me curious."
Still curious? Start with a conversation.
A first visit always begins with time to talk, so bring every question you have, and we'll figure out together whether this is a fit. New patients always welcome.
