Acupuncture is a holistic art form that has been used for over 2,000 years to balance almost all of our body’s needs!
Acupuncture, a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or Oriental Medicine, is one of the oldest healing practices in existence. It promotes health and balance in our bodies by stimulating “Qi” (pronounced “chee”) through acupuncture points and meridians— energetic pathways in the human body comprised of Qi. Qi is life-force energy, and by relieving Qi blockages and restoring balance in the body and mind, acupuncture allows Qi to flow freely, helping the body to naturally heal pain and disease.
My favorite Herbology teacher Sharon Feng, once said, “Diet and emotions are the root of our disease.” To understand this concept of where disease roots from, I’ve had to dive deep into the world holistic Eastern (TCM) and Western (Functional) medicine to fully embrace this. that idea has transpired deep into my soul and I have since, spent the rest of my life cultivating and studying these old and new concepts. With over 2 and a half decades of study and cultivation, while maintaining balance in a world that is constantly changing and often difficult to navigate especially through downturns of economic disasters and pandemics, I’ve been able to develop my own system that helps others including myself find a better life full of joy, hope and exuberance in health.
Fortunately, I’ve had the opportunity to help thousands of patients from 2000 during economic disasters, political dismay/uproars to and through the COVID pandemic. All of these external forces have caused many emotional ups and downs and physical distress across nations, leaving people with emotional, dietary and physical imbalances.
Ultimately since we are emotionally, energetically and physiologically different everyday, our energy weaves up and down causing inevitable imbalances in Qi – Life force energy. Emotional, physiological, and energetic imbalances ultimately lead to physical imbalances that expressed themselves in the body as pain.
The good news is that Acupuncture can help us restore this balance, especially when we are in a FUNK!

About Acupuncture for Pain Relief
Understanding Acupuncture for Pain Management
Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body to restore balance and stimulate healing. Here’s how it can assist in pain management:
Mechanisms of Pain Relief

Neurotransmitter Release
The insertion of needles may trigger the release of neurotransmitters like endorphins, which help to alleviate pain.

Blood Flow Improvement
Acupuncture enhances local blood circulation,
potentially aiding tissue repair and reducing inflammation.

Pain Gate Theory
By stimulating specific nerve pathways, acupuncture may
inhibit pain signals sent to the brain, decreasing the sensation of pain.

This diagram appears to illustrate traditional acupuncture points on a human body.
Acupuncture points are believed to be areas where energy, or “Qi” flows, and they are targeted during treatments to restore balance and relieve pain. These points are often mapped across key meridians or energy channels throughout the body. If you have specific questions about the diagram or need further details, feel free to ask!

Acupuncture for Tendonitis
Tendonitis is a term that encompasses various inflammatory muscle conditions, commonly characterized by pain, swelling, and stiffness. Here’s how and where tendonitis often arises and how acupuncture can help treat it.
Common Locations for Tendonitis
- Shoulder (Rotator Cuff Tendonitis)
- Causes: Overhead activities, sports (like swimming or tennis), and repetitive lifting.
- Elbow (Tennis Elbow or Golfer’s Elbow)
- Causes: Repetitive wrist and arm motions, common in sports and manual labor.
- Wrist (De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis)
- Causes: Repetitive hand or wrist movements, often seen in activities like typing or using a smartphone.
- Hip (Iliopsoas Tendonitis)
- Causes: Overuse in activities like running or cycling.
- Knee (Patellar Tendonitis)
- Causes: Activities that involve jumping or running, typical in sports like basketball or soccer.
- Achilles Tendon (Achilles Tendonitis)
- Causes: Overuse in running or improper footwear.
How Acupuncture Treats Tendonitis
- Pain Relief
- Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, which can help reduce pain perception in the affected area.
- Reduced Inflammation
- Acupuncture may help prevent the inflammatory response and improve circulation, promoting healing in the tendon.
- Improved Blood Flow
- By enhancing blood circulation to the affected area, acupuncture can facilitate the delivery of nutrients necessary for healing.
- Relaxation of Muscles
- It targets muscle tension around the affected tendon, which can help alleviate pain and restore range of motion.
- Restoration of Function
- Acupuncture aims to rebalance the body’s energy flow (Qi), potentially improving overall function and reducing the likelihood of re-injury.
Treatment Approach
- Points Selection: Acupuncture may target local points around the affected tendon as well as distal points related to the same meridian or pathway.
- Combination with Other Techniques: Sometimes combined with other therapies like physical therapy or massage for comprehensive care.
How Often Should You Come for Treatments?
- Initial Frequency:
- Many practitioners recommend starting with 1-2 sessions per week for the first few weeks to assess response and progress.
- Maintenance:
- Once improvement is seen, frequency may decrease to every 2-4 weeks, depending on individual needs and the condition.
- Individual Variation:
- Treatment frequency can vary based on the severity of pain, chronicity, and individual response to acupuncture.
